Human Inhabitants
Out of the little population of the Great Victoria Desert, the main inhabitants are the Indigenous Australians. However, there are a few Caucasian workers who do nuclear testing and mining there. Us Dunzs' must stay away from the areas where the nuclear testing and mining is ocurring.
The Indigenous Australian groups who inhabit the Great Victoria Desert include the Kogara, the Mirning and the Pitjantjatjara. In the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands which is in South Australia, where a part of the Great Victoria Desert is, there are 8 major communities. The major communities in the bioregion are Aparawatatja, Pukatja, Amata, Iwantja, Mimili and Pipalyatjara.
The Aboriginal groups which are currently living in the Great Victoria Desert follow Dreaming tracks marked by rock holes and dams, which lead to water sources in the Great Victoria Desert. For example, there is a water source in the Great Victoria Desert called Youldeh. This source of water is extremely significant because in desperate times of drought, this water is one of their only major refuges.
